For the second consecutive year a skiing with flags and nosii (traditional bulgarian costumes) was organized in Pamporovo ski resort for the Bulgarian National Holiday on March 3rd. And for the second time, I decided to shoot this unique event. Because, for me the very idea behind it is really impressive - tradition and modernity combined in one.
From the upper parts of the pretty Ustina village begins an eco path leading to the Ustian Waterfall. It is 15 meters high and because its source is a small and low-water river it is advisable to visit the waterfall in April or May or after heavy rainfall.
Located 2 km. from Karlukovo village, Prohodna cave is one of the most impressive I have ever seen. Not only because of the Eyes of God - the natural rock-like openings, but also because of the breath-taking size of the cave. Standing at the entrance to the cave, one realizes how small we are in comparison with mother nature. The main entrance of the Prohodna cave, which is located on the side of the road, is 35 meters high and the "exit" or entrance on the other side is 45 meters high, making it the highest cave entrance in Bulgaria.
Alyosha also known as The monument of the unknown soldier is an 11-metre tall reinforced concrete statue of a Soviet soldier in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The statue has a 6-metre pedestal lined with granite. The memorial commemorates Soviet casualties incurred during the Turkish occupation of Bulgaria.
Bunardzhika is one of the seven hills of Plovdiv. The hill is popular with the name Alyosha, because of the monument at the top. Bunardzhika is the second highest hill in the city - 108 m above the sea level. Its name comes from the Ottoman word Bunar meaning a well, because of the numerous waterways located there. In Roman times it was also known as "Hill of Hercules" as there was a large statue of the mythical hero. At the footsteps of the Bunardzhika hill there is a restaurant, park and summer theater.
The highest waterfall in the Rhodope Mountains is 35 km away from the city of Plovdiv and 5 km away from Bachkovo, which allows for escape from the summer heat and take a wonderful weekend walk. The beginning of the trail to the Slivodolsko padalo waterfall is just after the first tunnel after Bachkovo. Parking is difficult because there is very little room in the ramp after the tunnel. There are also several parking spaces at the entrance of the fishpond across the street.
